I started decorating cakes in 2009 and have posted my creations on facebook. Many have expressed the desire to share the photos with others. While my intent is to share my cakes, this will most likely become a place for me to share many of my favorite things.

A quick break from cakes.
I found a recipe for these adorable gelatin orange and lemon slices in last months Food Network Magazine and had to make them for a potluck. They were a HUGE hit. Everyone wanted to know how I made them. It was pretty simple. Cut 2 oranges and 4 lemons in half. Scoop out the pulp (this is a bit messy, I had to clean my glasses several times). I juiced the pulp, drank the orange juice and saved the lemon for a pie. Place empty peels in muffin tins for stability. Mix 2 small boxes of orange jello with 1 1/2 cup of boiling water, stir for 3 minutes. Fill the oranges to the brim. Do the same for the lemons. Let set for at least 3 hours. Slice each half. So cute! But not nearly as healthy as the real thing :).

My mum used to make these for our birthday parties in New Zealand (oh, about a gazillion years ago!!) Thanks for the reminder - I must make some for my little girl.
ReplyDeleteYour cake work is AMAZING!!! What a talent. When I find things I like on blogs I always get so excited about trying it out for myself. Ha! I can tell you that I wouldn't even attempt to try - would only end in tears. Shar
Thank you for the kind words Shar!
